Literary scholars often consider William Shakespeare to be one of the greatest writers of all time. His works have been enjoyed, studied, and translated into more than 80 languages over hundreds of years. Shakespeare holds the world record as the best-selling playwright of all time, and it is estimated that over four billion copies of his works have been sold. Despite these impressive facts, many people today know very little about the famous bard and his work. Misinformation and a lack of quality Shakespeare education have left many people with very little knowledge in the area of Shakespeare. This is significant, because one cannot fully understand and appreciate the English language, literary history, or the human capacity for storytelling without understanding William Shakespeare and his legacy. The Shakespeare Information Society exists as a resource for the curious beginner, casual fan, and passionate Shakespeare buff alike to enjoy, learn, and, ultimately, grow in appreciation for the wonderful world of Shakespeare.
